John Pears is co-owner of Tofo Scuba, he was born in Pretoria South Africa, he moved to Margate where he owned the hotel Kenilworth on Sea. There he helped pioneer diving on Protea Banks. 14 years ago he started the diving at Barra Lodge, soon after Tofo Scuba was started by himself and Nikki. John is a NAUI, PADI and IANTD advanced Nitrox instructor and is also a genius with anything that needs to be fixed, a big plus in Mozambique. He has recently become a very proud father and his little boy keeps him busy when he is not at work.

Nikki Pears is co-owner of Tofo Scuba, she was born in Johannesburg South Africa. She qualified as a veterinary nurse at the university of Pretoria and then came to Mozambique for a 2 week holiday and fell madly in love with her instructor John. Together they ran the Barra Lodge dive centre which they then sold and started Tofo Scuba. Nikki is both a NAUI and PADI instructor and is also a very keen environmentalist, she has been involved in various conservation projects in the area, the biggest one being the stopping of local shark fining. Her life has recently changed as she has become a mommy to the beautiful baby, Cooper Alexander Pears!

Dinis Ventura although born in Portugal has been in Mozambique since his first birthday. Ever since a youngster he has loved the water and is a keen kitesurfer, surfer, kayaking and is known to be extremely lucky on dives. He is an avid underwater photographer and has a sharp eye in spotting macro life. He is also a wonder at fixing everything from kit to kites.

LUCAS PAULINHO FRANCISCO is one of our PADI scholarship candidates who recently got his instructors. Lucas was born and schooled in Inhambane City and when interviewed on passing his instructor course was heard to have said that the first time he dived he was excited and very nervous, but then he saw a manta ray and it changed his life. Lucas loves diving and his baby girl and is keen to educate his fellow countrymen about the ocean and its creatures..
